Laser vaginal tightening
Does your vagina feel less firm after childbirth or due to natural ageing? Treatment with the Fotona SP Dynamis stimulates the tissue of the vaginal wall, without surgery or incisions.
Controlled heating of the vaginal mucosa
The Fotona SP Dynamis uses a non-ablative Er:YAG laser with a wavelength of 2,940 nanometres. This energy is strongly absorbed by the water in the vaginal mucosa. Successive SMOOTH pulses heat the tissue evenly and in a controlled way, without incisions and without intentionally removing a layer of mucosa.
Laser energy becomes heat
The water in the mucosa absorbs the laser energy. By distributing the pulses, heat gradually builds up in the treated tissue.
Collagen fibres contract
The controlled rise in temperature can cause existing collagen fibres to temporarily shorten and contract. This is the first part of the tissue response.
The tissue gradually adapts
Collagen and connective tissue remodelling may occur in the following weeks. Any change is therefore generally experienced gradually, rather than only immediately after the session.
When it feels different from before
Vaginal laxity means that the vagina feels less firm or wider. It may develop after vaginal childbirth, due to hormonal changes or because the supporting tissue becomes less elastic with age.
Some women notice less friction during sex, less support for a tampon or simply a change in sensation. This is not unusual, but you do not have to keep living with it if it bothers you.
Gentle heat, no incisions
The Fotona SP Dynamis uses controlled Er:YAG laser energy. Heat pulses are delivered along the vaginal wall and initiate the tissue’s natural repair process. The aim is a firmer, more elastic sensation.
Non-surgical
No cuts or stitches are required. The treatment is performed using a special handpiece inserted into the vagina.
Approximately 30 minutes
You mainly feel warmth. Anaesthesia is generally not required and you can go home after the session.
Gradual change
The tissue response develops in the weeks after treatment. The effect and experience vary from person to person.
What to expect from your treatment
Consultation
We discuss your symptoms, expectations and medical history to assess whether this treatment is suitable for you. Treatment is scheduled outside your menstrual period.
Laser session
A smooth handpiece delivers the laser energy in a controlled way, from deeper inside the vagina to the vaginal opening.
Follow-up
An initial course generally consists of 3 sessions. Maintenance treatment can be discussed afterwards.
Personal advice is essential
Treatment may be considered if the vagina feels subjectively wider or less firm, for example after childbirth. A proper assessment is also required if you experience mild urinary leakage: vaginal laxity, stress incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse are different conditions and do not automatically require the same treatment.
Do you have a palpable or visible bulge, pelvic pressure, unexplained bleeding, pain, an active infection, or urinary or bowel problems? You should first be examined by a GP or gynaecologist. Laser treatment does not replace a gynaecological examination or indicated pelvic floor therapy, a pessary or surgery.
Vaginal laxity or pelvic organ prolapse?
Vaginal laxity mainly involves a sensation of reduced firmness or increased width. With pelvic organ prolapse, an organ such as the uterus, bladder or bowel descends towards or into the vagina. Symptoms may overlap, but diagnosis and treatment options differ.
Good to know
Is vaginal tightening painful?
Most women mainly experience a warm sensation. The treatment is non-surgical and anaesthesia is generally not required. Experience and sensitivity do vary from person to person.
How many sessions do I need?
An initial treatment course generally consists of 3 sessions. The exact number and any maintenance treatment are discussed individually.
When can I have sex again?
We recommend avoiding sexual intercourse for one week after treatment. You will also receive personalised aftercare instructions during your appointment.
Can treatment take place during my period?
No. We schedule vaginal laser treatment outside your menstrual period. Please take your cycle into account when booking your appointment.
Is vaginal discharge normal after treatment?
A temporary increase in vaginal discharge is possible after treatment. Treatment may sometimes activate an existing Candida infection. Contact us if you develop itching, irritation, a burning sensation or noticeably altered discharge. A Candida infection must be treated.
Does the treatment also help with urinary leakage?
Urinary leakage can have different causes. For mild stress incontinence, another Fotona treatment application may be considered, but this requires a separate assessment and is not a guaranteed result of vaginal tightening.
Is vaginal tightening the same as prolapse treatment?
No. Vaginal tightening targets vaginal laxity. Pelvic organ prolapse involves the descent of one or more pelvic organs. A correct diagnosis is therefore important.
