Fractional Er:YAG laser

Smoother skin, renewed from within

The fractional laser creates controlled microscopic treatment zones in the skin. This activates the natural healing response and can gradually soften fine lines, enlarged pores, uneven skin texture and certain scars.

How does it work?

Targeted skin renewal while preserving the surrounding skin

During a fractional laser treatment, the laser beam is divided into very small treatment points. The Er:YAG laser is strongly absorbed by the water in the skin, creating controlled microscopic zones. Skin between these zones remains intact, so recovery is generally faster than when the entire skin surface is treated.

The healing process stimulates the formation and remodelling of collagen. As a result, skin texture can gradually become smoother and more even in the weeks and months after treatment.

Important: the intensity affects both the result and the recovery time. A milder treatment often requires more sessions; a more intensive treatment may produce a stronger effect but is usually accompanied by more redness, swelling and peeling.

01

Microscopic zones

The laser treats a fraction of the skin in a precise pattern.

02

Natural healing

The surrounding untreated skin supports controlled healing.

03

Gradual improvement

Skin texture becomes more refined as collagen continues to remodel over the following months.

What can the treatment improve?

For skin texture, but not every skin concern

We assess your skin type, the treatment area and your expectations beforehand. Not every pigmentation or redness concern is treated with the same laser.

Fine lines

For smoother skin texture and a fresher appearance, without suggesting that deeper folds will disappear.

Enlarged pores & texture

For skin that looks uneven or coarse. Pores can become less noticeable, but they do not disappear completely.

Acne and other scars

For certain indented acne scars or superficial scars. The type, depth and age of the scar influence the result.

Sun damage

Can refine dull, sun-damaged skin. Suspicious pigmented lesions must first be medically assessed.

Superficial lines around the mouth

The texture around the mouth can be softened. Smoker’s lines may require a specific treatment plan or combination treatment.

Stretch marks and skin irregularities

Their visibility can be reduced, but complete removal is not realistic. We discuss the achievable improvement beforehand.

The treatment

What can you expect?

The settings are tailored to your skin, the area and the desired result. You wear protective eyewear during treatment. Depending on the intensity, a numbing cream may be applied beforehand.

The treatment may feel warm, prickly or burning. Immediately afterwards, the skin is red and often slightly swollen. A more intensive laser peel can also cause pinpoint crusting, dryness and peeling.

* Exact recovery time varies considerably according to the settings and treatment area. Do not schedule important social occasions immediately after a more intensive treatment.
Beforehand

We assess your skin and medical history. Mention medication, cold sores, recent sun exposure, pregnancy, wound healing and previous pigmentation changes.

Day of treatment

Arrive with clean skin and no make-up, perfume or irritating skincare products on the treatment area.

First 1 to 2 days

Apply Flamigel according to the aftercare instructions provided. Swelling is normal on the day of treatment and may be more noticeable the following day.

Afterwards

Switch to a moisturising ointment when advised. Redness lasts around 5 days on average. Warmth, dryness, rough skin and mild peeling can also be part of normal recovery.

Following weeks and months

The skin gradually becomes more even. Collagen remodelling takes time; the final result is not visible immediately after the redness subsides.

Before and aftercare

A good result starts with calm, protected healing

Before your treatment

  • Avoid sunbathing, tanning beds and self-tanner in the weeks beforehand.
  • Use broad-spectrum sun protection with a high SPF every day.
  • Discuss active skin infections, cold sores, eczema, medication and previous pigmentation problems beforehand.
  • Stop retinoids, acids or peels only as advised by your practitioner.
  • Arrive without make-up or irritating products on the treatment area.

After your treatment

  • Apply Flamigel for the first 1 to 2 days according to the aftercare instructions provided.
  • Then use a moisturising ointment to support further healing.
  • Cleanse gently and use only the recommended recovery products.
  • Do not scratch, scrub or pick at crusts.
  • Avoid heat, saunas, strenuous exercise and swimming while the skin is still clearly irritated.
  • Only resume make-up and active skincare once the skin has closed and healed sufficiently.
  • Strictly protect the skin from sunlight with clothing and SPF 50.
We preferably schedule laser treatments during periods with little sun exposure. Season alone is not decisive: tanned skin and inadequate protection increase the risk of pigmentation changes.

Safe and realistic

Possible side effects and risks

Redness, swelling, warmth, dryness and peeling are often part of normal recovery. The risk of complications depends on factors including skin type, treatment area, laser settings, sun exposure and aftercare.

Contact us if pain increases, blisters or pus develop, redness spreads or your recovery differs from what was discussed.

Pigmentation changesTemporary or sometimes permanent dark or light patches, especially in darker or tanned skin.
Infection or herpes reactivationRare, but possible. Mention any history of cold sores beforehand.
Prolonged rednessMay persist longer after a more intensive treatment.
ScarringRare, but cannot be ruled out completely.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know beforehand

How many treatments will I need?

This depends on your skin concern, the depth of any scars and the chosen intensity. Some people notice improvement after one intensive session; a course of treatments is often needed. We discuss a realistic treatment plan during the skin assessment.

When will I see results?

As the initial redness and dryness subside, the skin may already look smoother. Improvement continues gradually over the following weeks and months as collagen remodels.

Is the treatment painful?

The sensation ranges from warmth and prickling to a stronger burning feeling. This depends on the treatment area and intensity. A numbing cream is applied beforehand if needed.

Can I return to work immediately?

With a mild setting, social downtime is often limited. After a more intensive treatment, redness, swelling, pinpoint crusts or peeling may remain visible for several days. We provide a personalised estimate beforehand.

Is fractional laser suitable for darker skin?

Darker skin has a higher risk of pigmentation changes. This does not automatically mean treatment is impossible, but skin type, indication and settings must be assessed carefully. We may sometimes recommend another treatment.

What can you expect for pores and scars?

Pores can become smaller and therefore less visible. Scars may become more supple and their colour can gradually appear softer and more even. Unfortunately, a persistent scar usually cannot be removed completely. Thickened or difficult scars may require a combination with corticosteroid injections. In some cases, surgical scar revision is a better option. The suitable approach depends on the type, location and development of the scar.
