How it works

Breaking ink particles down so your body can do the rest

The Q-switched laser emits very short, powerful pulses of light. The energy is absorbed by the tattoo pigment and breaks the ink into smaller fragments. The body then gradually clears them.

Every tattoo is different.
The ink, colour, depth, age, location on the body and your skin’s response all affect how quickly a tattoo fades.
01

Assessment and test

We assess the tattoo and your skin, discuss your expectations and select settings that are both safe and appropriate.

02

Targeted laser pulses

The laser is adjusted to the colours and depth of the pigment. Treatment usually feels like brief warm stings.

03

Gradual fading

After every session, your body needs time to clear the treated pigment fragments.

04

Adequate recovery

We leave at least eight weeks between treatments. Sometimes a longer interval is better for your skin and the result.

Which tattoos can we treat?

Both professional and amateur tattoos can be treated. Medical tattoos, permanent make-up and certain traumatic pigment marks may also be suitable, subject to assessment.

Dark inks

Black and dark blue generally respond most predictably to laser treatment.

Coloured inks

Response varies according to colour and composition. Some green, blue and red pigments may respond well, while others are more resistant.

Preparing for a cover-up

A tattoo does not always need to be removed completely. A few sessions may fade it sufficiently for a new design.

Important for light pigments: witte, huidkleurige en sommige pastelinkten nemen laserenergie minder voorspelbaar op en kunnen donker verkleuren. Daarom behandelen we deze extra voorzichtig en is een proefzone soms aangewezen.
Before and after your session

Good aftercare helps your skin recover

Redness, swelling, a white haze or small blisters may occur shortly after treatment. These reactions are usually temporary. You will receive clear aftercare instructions.

  • Keep the treated area clean and follow the advice on dressings and healing ointment.
  • Do not scratch scabs or blisters; allow the skin to heal naturally.
  • Avoid sun and sunbeds and protect the skin carefully with high-factor sun protection.
  • Avoid swimming, saunas and strenuous exercise while the skin is still open or very irritated.
  • Contact us if pain increases or if you notice marked redness, pus or anything that concerns you.

Frequently asked questions

What else would you like to know?

How many sessions will I need?

Many tattoos require several treatments. Around 6 to 12 sessions is common, but fewer or more may be needed. Colour, depth, ink density, age, location and individual clearance all play a part.

Can a tattoo disappear completely?

Complete removal is possible but cannot be guaranteed. A faint shadow, residual colour or difference in skin texture may remain. We discuss what appears realistic beforehand.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

The pulses may feel like quick snaps of an elastic band or heat. Treatment is usually brief and we cool the skin to improve comfort.

Can permanent make-up also be treated?

Sometimes, but cosmetic pigments can respond differently and may darken in certain cases. Careful assessment and occasionally a test treatment are therefore important.

When can I not be treated?

We postpone treatment in situations including pregnancy, an active skin infection, a recent tan or sunburn. We discuss medication, scarring and medical conditions beforehand to assess safety.

Can I go in the sun between sessions?

Avoid active sun exposure and sunbeds during the treatment course. Tanned skin increases the risk of pigment changes. Protect the area daily with clothing and high-factor sun protection.
