Body contours around the waist, buttocks and thighs

LiposuctionRefining your
body contours.

Some fat deposits persist, even at a stable weight. Liposuction can reduce these localised deposits while respecting your body’s proportions.

Targeting localised fat deposits

What can liposuction
do for you?

Liposuction removes fat beneath the skin through small incisions using a thin cannula. The term liposculpture emphasises the reshaping of body contours.

The treatment may suit women and men with localised fat deposits, a stable weight and sufficiently elastic skin. During your consultation, we assess your health, skin quality and expectations.

From consultation to aftercare

A treatment plan tailored to you.

  1. Discussion & preparation

We discuss the areas to treat, anaesthesia and the expected change in contour. Tell us about your medication, supplements, smoking and medical history. You will receive individual instructions; never change your medication yourself.

  2. The treatment

The treatment areas are marked out. The doctor inserts a cannula through small openings to suction out fat. The anaesthesia and operating time depend on the extent of treatment and your treatment plan.

  3. Follow-up & recovery

After observation, you receive instructions on wound care, compression garments and follow-up appointments. You are discharged when it is medically appropriate. Arrange transport and help at home, especially for the first night after anaesthesia.

Unsure whether liposuction meets your needs? We explore the possibilities together, without requiring an immediate decision.

The procedure explained

How is the fat
removed?

The doctor marks the treatment areas beforehand. Depending on the extent of treatment, liposuction is performed under local or general anaesthesia, sometimes with sedation.

A special fluid is usually introduced into the fat beneath the skin first. This helps limit blood loss and may contain a local anaesthetic.

Through small openings in the skin, the doctor inserts a thin, hollow tube: the cannula. Controlled movements loosen the fat, which is removed by a suction system. The doctor works gradually to make the contours and transitions as even as possible.

The wounds are then dressed and you will usually be fitted with a compression garment. The procedure often takes around one to three hours, depending on the areas treated and any combined procedures. The precise technique and duration are discussed beforehand.

Give your body time

Recovery happens
step by step.

  • The first few daysSwelling, bruising and soreness are common. Rest sufficiently and move gently as instructed.
  • The first few weeksYou will usually wear a compression garment for several weeks. Returning to work and exercise depends on the treated areas, your recovery and the level of exertion.
  • The following monthsThe contour becomes clearer as swelling subsides. It can take up to around six months for the area to settle.

This is general guidance. Your individual aftercare instructions always take priority.

Clarity from the start

Making an informed choice

What else would
you like to know?

A considered decision starts with realistic expectations. Your consultation gives you time to ask questions.

Will the results last?

Results can be long-lasting if your weight remains stable. Weight changes, pregnancy and ageing may alter your contours again over time. A particular shape or perfect symmetry cannot be guaranteed.

Will the scars be visible?

Small scars remain where the cannula was inserted. They generally fade, but are not invisible in everyone. Healing and skin responses vary from person to person.

What are the risks?

Possible complications include infection, bleeding after surgery, fluid accumulation, changes in sensation, asymmetry and uneven contours. An additional correction is sometimes needed.

Rare serious complications include thrombosis or pulmonary embolism, damage to deeper tissues and anaesthesia-related problems. Your doctor discusses your individual risks and the measures taken to reduce them.

When can I return to work, exercise or driving?

This depends on the procedure and your recovery. Discuss your work and sporting activities beforehand. Only resume driving when you can react safely, are not taking sedating medication and your doctor agrees.

Do I need to stop smoking or vaping?

Smoking and nicotine can impair wound healing. Discuss smoking, vaping and nicotine products beforehand. Your doctor will tell you how long to stop before and after the procedure.

Which technique is used?

There are different ways to perform liposuction. During your consultation, the doctor explains which technique is proposed and why. The choice depends on the area, your tissues and the intended result.
