What does a mommy makeover involve?
A mommy makeover is an umbrella term for procedures on the breasts, abdomen and body contours after pregnancy. There is no fixed package: sometimes one procedure is enough, while in other cases a combination may be appropriate.
We discuss what bothers you, what is medically appropriate and what results are realistic. You do not have to change anything about your body; the decision is entirely yours.
Breasts
Breast augmentation may be suitable for volume loss. Sagging often requires a breast lift, sometimes with implants. Breast reduction may be an option for heavy breasts. An implant alone cannot correct every degree of sagging.
Abdomen
A tummy tuck removes excess skin and subcutaneous fat. If needed, the surgeon can also tighten the stretched connective tissue between the rectus abdominal muscles. Your anatomy determines whether a mini or full tummy tuck is appropriate.
Waist & contours
Liposuction can reduce localised fat deposits, for example on the flanks. The skin needs sufficient elasticity to retract. If there is significant excess skin, liposuction alone is usually not enough.
A mommy makeover is not a weight-loss treatment. Stretch marks will not all disappear either: a tummy tuck only removes those located in the skin that is excised.
Time to recover and decide
When is the right time?
Allow your body time to recover after childbirth. Surgery is often considered only after at least six months, sometimes later. The calendar alone does not determine whether you are ready.
- Your weight is stable. Major weight changes can affect the result again.
- You have finished breastfeeding. For breast surgery, we wait until breast volume and shape have stabilised sufficiently; this may take several more months.
- Ideally, your family is complete. A further pregnancy can stretch the skin and abdominal wall again.
- Your health and home situation allow for recovery. We discuss medication, nicotine use, previous operations and your risk of blood clots, among other factors.
Together or in stages
Not everything needs to happen
in one operation.
Combining procedures may allow for one anaesthetic and a shared recovery period. However, a longer operation and several treated areas also place greater demands on your body.
Safety guides the planning. The surgeon weighs up the extent of surgery, operating time, your health and recovery. Sometimes it is more appropriate to treat you in two separate stages.

We discuss your wishes and medical history and examine your breasts, skin and abdominal wall. You receive a proposal and a personalised quotation. You decide at your own pace.
Preparation & procedure
You receive instructions about fasting, medication, smoking and nicotine. Never stop medication on your own initiative. An extensive combination is usually performed under general anaesthesia; its duration depends on the plan.
Observation & follow-up
Surgery takes place in Diest. The observation required and the timing of discharge are determined individually. You receive instructions about wound care, any drains, a support bra or compression garments and follow-up appointments.
Recovery takes time and support
Plan for the weeks afterwards, too.
The most extensive procedure usually sets the pace. The phases below are a guide for combined breast and abdominal surgery; your individual aftercare instructions always take priority.
The first days
Rest, help at home and short walks as advised. Swelling, bruising, tightness and tiredness are common. Arrange transport and an adult to stay with you after discharge.
The first weeks
Gradually build up light activities. Returning to a desk job often takes a few weeks; physical work usually requires longer. Wound checks and sufficient rest remain important.
From around 6 weeks
Exercise and heavier activities are often gradually resumed around this time, but only with approval. Swelling may continue to settle for months; scars usually mature over a year or longer.

There is no fixed price for every combination. The chosen procedures, anaesthesia and required care determine the quotation. During your consultation, you will be told what is included.

About results, scars and the safety of combined procedures.
What are the risks?
Every operation carries risks, such as postoperative bleeding, infection, fluid accumulation, delayed wound healing, noticeable scars, changes in sensation or asymmetry. Blood clots, pulmonary embolism and complications of anaesthesia are also possible.
Breast surgery can change nipple sensation and the ability to breastfeed. Implants carry additional risks, including capsular contracture, rupture and rare implant-related conditions. Further surgery may be needed. The surgeon discusses the risks of your specific combination.
Which scars remain visible?
This depends on the procedures. A breast lift may leave scars around the areola, vertically downwards and sometimes in the breast crease. A full tummy tuck usually leaves a low horizontal scar and a scar around the navel. Liposuction leaves small incision scars.
Scars often fade, but they do not disappear. The surgeon will explain beforehand where yours are expected to be.
Can I become pregnant afterwards?
A mommy makeover is not contraception and does not rule out a later pregnancy. Pregnancy can, however, change the result, particularly in the breasts and abdomen. We therefore prefer to plan surgery once your family is complete. Discuss any plans for a future pregnancy with your surgeon.
Does diastasis always require surgery?
No. Diastasis is a widening of the connective tissue between the rectus abdominal muscles. Assessment depends on your symptoms, examination and recovery after pregnancy. Targeted physiotherapy may be a first step. Tightening this layer may be appropriate during a tummy tuck; this is discussed individually.
Can I have a mommy makeover without implants?
Yes. If you have sufficient natural breast volume, a breast lift without implants may be suitable. Breast reduction is also an option. If you would like additional volume, we discuss which options may be appropriate.
How long does the result last?
The result can be long-lasting, but your body continues to change with ageing, weight fluctuations and any further pregnancy. A stable weight helps maintain your contours. Complete symmetry or a permanently unchanged result cannot be guaranteed.
