Tummy tuck · abdominoplasty

A firmer abdomen, with respect for your body

A tummy tuck removes excess skin and can repair weakened abdominal muscles. The technique is carefully tailored to your body shape, wishes and recovery needs.

More than fat removal

When exercise alone cannot solve the problem

After pregnancy, major weight loss or with ageing, the skin can lose its elasticity. The rectus abdominal muscles may also separate, known as diastasis recti. These changes do not always disappear through diet or exercise.

During a tummy tuck, the plastic surgeon removes excess skin. If needed, the abdominal muscles are tightened and liposuction can further refine the abdomen and flanks. The aim is not a “perfect abdomen”, but a balanced contour that suits your body.

Good to know: a tummy tuck is not a weight-loss procedure. A stable weight and good overall health support safe recovery and help preserve the result.
Which approach suits you?

Three options, one personalised recommendation

During your consultation, we assess the amount and location of excess skin, the condition of the abdominal muscles and skin quality.

Limited correction

Mini tummy tuck

For excess skin mainly below the navel. The navel usually does not need to be repositioned.

  • Smaller treatment area
  • Scar positioned low on the abdomen
  • Usually a shorter recovery
Contour refinement

With liposuction

Liposuction may be added when localised fat deposits on the abdomen or flanks also affect the contour.

  • Target skin and fat precisely
  • A more harmonious waist
  • Only when medically appropriate
Tummy tuck or liposuction?

The difference lies beneath the skin

Liposuction removes localised fat deposits, but cannot correct loose skin or separated abdominal muscles. A tummy tuck treats excess skin and can also tighten the muscular wall.

  • Mainly localised fat and firm skin?
    Then liposuction may be sufficient.
  • Loose skin or an abdominal apron?
A tummy tuck is often more suitable.
  • A combination of both?
The surgeon assesses whether a combined procedure is safe and appropriate.

Recovery in stages

Give your body time

First days

Rest, moving slightly bent forwards and help at home are important. Swelling, tightness and bruising are normal.

After 1–2 weeks

The first check-ups take place. Gentle walking is encouraged; heavy lifting remains discouraged.

After 4–6 weeks

Many everyday activities can gradually be resumed, depending on your procedure and healing.

Following months

Swelling continues to subside and the scar settles. The final result develops gradually.

These are general guidelines. Your recovery may differ. Always follow your surgeon’s personal instructions and contact the clinic if you experience unexpected symptoms.

Frequently asked questions

Clear information about scars, recovery and results

Where will the scar be?

The horizontal scar is positioned as low as possible, usually beneath underwear or swimwear. A full tummy tuck also leaves a scar around the navel. Scars are permanent, but generally fade over time.

Can a tummy tuck repair diastasis recti?

When the rectus abdominal muscles have separated, the surgeon can tighten them during a full or adapted tummy tuck. Your examination determines whether this is needed in your case.

Can I become pregnant afterwards?

Pregnancy remains possible, but may alter the result again. The procedure is therefore usually planned when there is no longer a specific wish for pregnancy.

What are the possible risks?

As with any surgery, possible risks include bleeding, infection, fluid accumulation, delayed wound healing, altered sensation, thrombosis and less favourable scarring. Smoking significantly increases certain risks. The surgeon discusses your personal risk profile in detail.

Will the result last?

The removed excess skin does not return, but weight fluctuations, pregnancy and ageing can affect the contour again. A stable weight helps preserve the result.
