What is MIA Femtech?

A minimally invasive breast augmentation, subtle in design

MIA Femtech is a minimally invasive technique for subtle breast augmentation. A specially developed implant is inserted through a small incision in the armpit — no incision is made on the breast itself.

The approach has been developed with the preservation of the breast tissue as a starting point, and is intended for a result that remains in proportion to your body: usually a more limited increase in volume than with many conventional breast augmentations, with a natural result as the goal.

“No incision on the breast itself — the scar is discreetly located in a natural crease of the armpit.”

In short

The core benefits

Subtle, natural volume increase

A result that remains in proportion to your own body.

Small incision in the armpit

No incision on the breast itself.

Tissue-sparing approach

Developed with the preservation of breast tissue as a starting point.

Usually faster recovery

Compared to a conventional breast augmentation, although this differs per person.

Innovative, tissue-sparing technology

How does MIA Femtech work?

A controlled channel is formed to the breast through a small incision in the armpit using specially developed instruments. The implant is inserted through this channel and placed behind the mammary tissue.

  • The incision is in a natural crease of the armpit, not on the chest.
  • The canal is formed with instruments designed to spare the surrounding tissue as much as possible.
  • The implant is placed behind the mammary tissue, in a predetermined position.
  • This combination of a small, displaced incision and a tissue-sparing channel means that the technique is described as minimally invasive.
Eligibility

Who is MIA suitable for?

MIA can suit you when…

  • you want a subtle increase in volume;
  • you find natural proportions important;
  • you are not expecting a major change in cup size;
  • you do not yet have breast implants;
  • your breast shape is sufficiently suitable for this technique.

MIA may not be the best choice when…

  • you want a noticeably larger breast;
  • there is clear skin sagging or a need for lifting;
  • you have a complex asymmetry;
  • you already have breast implants;
  • another technique can provide a better anatomical result.

During the consultation we not only examine whether MIA is technically possible, but especially whether the technique suits your body and expectations.

Exploratory overview

Which breast augmentation suits your wishes?

Not every technology offers the same possibilities. The best choice depends on your anatomy, the desired volume increase and the way you want to be treated.

Motiva Preservé
For more choice within a tissue-sparing technique

Preservé combines a tissue-sparing approach with more volume options. The incision is usually located in the breast fold.

  • wider volume range
  • incision in the breast fold
  • more options for personalization
Discover Motiva Preservé
Conventional breast augmentation
For the widest personalization options

A conventional breast augmentation offers the widest choice in implant, shape, volume and placement. This technique can also offer more options in more complex initial situations.

  • widest choice in volume
  • different implants and placements
  • widely customizable

Why Belgian Beauty Clinic for MIA Femtech?

Dr. Kristoff Verdonck was the first surgeon in the Benelux to be trained for MIA, and is a recognized international trainer for both MIA and Motiva Preservé. Belgian Beauty Clinic is an official training center, where other surgeons are trained in these techniques.

Because we offer different breast augmentation techniques in our clinic, we advise based on your anatomy and expectations — not exclusively based on one technique.

Your surgeon

Dr. Kristoff Verdonck

Dr. Verdonck has extensive experience with breast augmentations and has mastered various techniques, from classic procedures to MIA and Preservé. He does not use this broad experience to promote one technique, but to determine together with you what suits your body and your wishes best.

During the consultation, Dr. Verdonck takes the time to carefully assess your breast shape, skin quality and expectations. This way you get honest advice about MIA, Preservé or a conventional breast augmentation, without one technique being automatically presented as the best choice.

Frequently asked questions

What patients often ask us

How much bigger will my breasts get with MIA?

MIA is intended for a subtle, limited increase in volume. The precise outcome depends on your initial situation and the chosen implant, and will be discussed specifically during the consultation.

Where is the scar located?

In a natural fold of the armpit. No incision is made on the breast itself, although it remains a surgical scar that is placed as discreetly as possible.

What anesthesia is used?

MIA can usually be performed without general anesthesia. Which form of anesthesia is suitable for you will be discussed with you individually.

How is the recovery going?

Recovery varies per person. Tension, swelling or tenderness are possible in the first days; heavier exercise and sports are gradually resumed according to your surgeon's instructions.

Can I still breastfeed?

Because the incision is in the armpit and the mammary tissue is spared as much as possible, breastfeeding often remains possible for suitable candidates. No breast surgery can provide an absolute guarantee.

Can I still have a mammography or MRI performed?

Yes. Report that you have implants before any examination, so that the radiologist can take this into account.

Can MIA replace a breast lift?

No. MIA has not been developed for the correction of obvious skin laxity. In that case, your surgeon will discuss a more suitable option, such as a breast lift.

Can MIA be used with existing implants?

No. MIA is intended for patients who do not yet have breast implants.

What is the difference between MIA and Preservé?

Both are tissue-sparing techniques. Preservé works through an incision in the breast fold and usually offers more volume choice; MIA works through the armpit and is aimed at an even more subtle enlargement. Which of the two suits you depends on your anatomy and wishes.

How do I know which technique suits me?

This is assessed during a personal consultation, based on your breast shape, skin quality, wishes and expectations — not based on one fixed technique.

Personal advice

Not every breast and not every wish requires the same technique

During a personal consultation, we will discuss together whether MIA, Preservé or a conventional breast augmentation best suits your anatomy and expectations.
