How does laser hair removal work?

Light energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. The heat reaches the hair follicle and inhibits new hair growth.

Only hairs in the active growth phase respond optimally. Because not all hairs are in this phase at the same time, several treatments at regular intervals are needed. After a complete course, there is usually significantly less hair, while remaining hairs often grow back finer and lighter.

A realistic result: we deliberately use the term long-lasting hair reduction. Hormonal changes, age and predisposition may cause new hair growth later. An occasional maintenance treatment may therefore be helpful.
For women and men

Which areas can we treat?

From small facial areas to larger body areas. At your first appointment, we assess whether your skin, hair and treatment area are a suitable combination.

01

Face

Including the upper lip, chin, jawline, cheeks, throat and neck. Hormonal hair growth may require a longer treatment course.

02

Body

For example, the underarms, arms, legs, abdomen, back, chest and shoulders. Larger areas can be treated efficiently during each session.

03

Intimate areas

The bikini line and other external intimate areas can be treated discreetly and according to your personal preference.

Tailored technology

Two devices, one personalised treatment plan

Every skin responds differently. We therefore select the most suitable technology and settings for each person and treatment area.

Laser · 1064 nm

Fotona SP Dynamis Nd:YAG

The Nd:YAG laser uses a wavelength that penetrates deeper into the skin and is absorbed relatively little by skin pigment. With carefully selected settings, this technology may therefore also be suitable for darker skin types.

  • Targeted laser energy
  • Suitable for many darker skin types
  • Air cooling for added comfort
AFT · pulsed light

Alma Harmony XL Pro

The AFT system uses carefully filtered light pulses that are absorbed by the pigment in the hair. Energy is delivered evenly and tailored to the skin type, hair colour and treatment area.

  • Suitable for a wide range of areas
  • Even energy distribution
  • Settings tailored to skin and hair

AFT is an advanced form of IPL and technically not a laser. Both technologies have the same aim: to heat the hair follicle in a controlled way and reduce hair growth over the long term.

Your treatment course

What to expect from a treatment course

Assessment

We discuss your medical history, medication, sun exposure and previous hair-removal methods. We then assess your skin type, hair colour and treatment area.

Treatment

The skin is cleansed and protected. You may feel brief warm pinpricks; cooling helps improve comfort. Treatment time depends on the size of the area.

Regular intervals

We schedule your next appointment according to the growth cycle of the area. Isolated sessions at random times usually produce less efficient results.

Start at the right time

Working towards a specific date? Start in good time: a complete treatment course takes several months.

Before your appointment

Good preparation makes a difference

Always follow the personalised instructions you receive from us.

After treatment

What can you expect?

Mild redness, warmth, sensitivity or slight swelling around the hair follicles is normal and usually settles within hours to a few days. Treated hairs do not fall out immediately, but generally shed gradually.

Avoid heat, intense exercise, saunas, friction and irritating products while the skin is sensitive. Protect exposed areas carefully from UV radiation.

Contact us if you develop blisters, crusting, increasing pain, marked swelling or an unexpected skin reaction.
Suitability

When is laser hair removal less effective?

Light or low-pigment hair

White, grey, very blonde and some red hairs contain little or no melanin. They therefore usually respond insufficiently to light- and laser-based hair removal.

Recently tanned skin

Sun-tanned skin or self-tanner increases the risk of pigment changes and burns. Treatment may then need to be postponed.

Hormonal hair growth

Hormonal influences can continue to trigger new hair growth. The treatment course may take longer and maintenance may be needed more often.

Frequently asked questions

Good to know

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Treatment can provide a strong, long-lasting reduction in hair growth, but cannot guarantee that no hair will ever return. New growth may occur due to hormones, age and predisposition.

How many sessions will I need?

An initial course usually consists of around 6 to 8 sessions. The exact number depends on the area, hair thickness, hair colour, skin type, hormones and individual response.

How long is the interval between treatments?

This varies by area and stage of treatment. We schedule each session according to the hair-growth cycle; facial appointments are usually closer together than body treatments.

Is the treatment painless?

Most people feel brief warm pinpricks or a snapping sensation. Sensitivity varies by area and person. Cooling and adjusted settings help keep treatment comfortable.

Can I have treatment in summer?

Areas not exposed to the sun can often continue to be treated. Exposed or tanned skin may require postponement. Always follow the laser specialist’s personalised sun-exposure advice.

Who performs the treatment?

Treatment is performed by an experienced nurse with specific training in laser and light technology. All laser treatments take place in Diest.
