Brazilian butt lift
Buttock augmentation with your own fat combines liposuction and fat transfer. This improves not only buttock volume, but also the balance between the waist, hips and buttocks.
A shape that suits your body
During a Brazilian butt lift, often shortened to BBL, fat is removed from areas where it is less desired and carefully transferred to the buttocks. The contour around the buttocks is at least as important as the volume itself.
The aim is not a standardised shape, but a balanced transition between the lower back, waist, hips and buttocks. How pronounced the result can be depends on your build, skin quality and the amount of usable fat, among other factors.
Body contouring with your own fat
At Belgian Beauty Clinic, buttock augmentation is performed exclusively with your own fat. The treatment combines liposuction of carefully selected areas with fat transfer to the buttocks.
Liposuction of the donor areas
Fat is removed by liposuction from areas agreed in advance, such as the abdomen, flanks or thighs. The new contour of these donor areas also contributes to the balance between the waist, hips and buttocks.
- donor areas are selected individually;
- fat is removed through small access incisions;
- the surrounding body contour is refined as well;
- only usable fat is processed further.
Fat transfer to the buttocks
The removed fat is purified and then distributed in controlled, small amounts throughout the subcutaneous tissue of the buttocks. This allows the surgeon to work precisely on roundness, projection and symmetry.
- your own fat only;
- the treatment uses material from your own body only;
- volume and shape are limited by your anatomy;
- some of the transferred fat is reabsorbed.
Good to know: a BBL is not a traditional buttock lift in which excess skin is removed. If there is significant excess skin, a different or additional procedure may be needed.
What happens during a BBL?
Assessment
We assess your proportions, skin quality, fat reserves, health and expectations.
Liposuction
Fat is removed from areas agreed in advance, such as the abdomen, flanks or thighs.
Purification
The harvested fat is processed so that usable fat cells can be transferred.
Fat transfer
The fat is distributed in controlled, small amounts and exclusively in the subcutaneous plane.
A BBL requires meticulous technique
Fat transfer to the buttocks carries specific risks. Careful patient selection, a measured and well-considered treatment plan, and placing the fat above the gluteal muscle are therefore essential.
Your surgeon will explain in advance which technique is used, what can be achieved responsibly and why a certain amount of fat can or cannot be transferred.
What can you expect after surgery?
Swelling, bruising and a tight or sore feeling are normal at first. Recovery is mainly determined by the combination of liposuction and fat transfer.
Rest and movement
Short walks promote circulation. Follow the prescribed medication and wound-care instructions.
Wear a compression garment
You will wear a special compression garment for several weeks. It supports the treated areas after liposuction and helps reduce swelling. At the same time, avoid prolonged direct sitting or lying on the buttocks for as long as your surgeon advises.
Work and exercise
Activities are resumed gradually depending on your work, healing and the extent of the procedure.
Final result
As swelling subsides and the surviving fat stabilises, the new contour becomes clearer.
Exact timelines vary from person to person. Your own surgeon’s instructions always take priority over general information.
Your contour is planned before surgery
A good result begins with a detailed assessment. We discuss where fat can be removed, which parts of the buttocks need additional volume and whether your skin can adapt sufficiently to the new shape.
What determines the result?
Not all transferred fat remains
Some transferred fat cells do not establish a lasting blood supply and are reabsorbed by the body. We therefore assess the result only once swelling has subsided and the fat has stabilised.
Your weight remains important
The surviving fat cells behave like other body fat: they can increase or decrease in size as your weight changes. Maintaining a stable weight helps preserve the result.

Would you like to know more about a BBL?
Can I have a BBL if I am slim?
You need enough usable fat for a meaningful and responsible fat transfer. If you have limited fat reserves, the achievable volume may be restricted or this treatment may not be suitable for you.
How much fat ultimately remains?
This varies by person and by area. Some fat is reabsorbed; the remainder can persist once the fat cells have established a new blood supply. The result can therefore never be guaranteed to an exact number of millilitres.
When can I sit down again?
Direct, prolonged pressure on the buttocks is limited during the initial recovery period. Your surgeon will give you a specific schedule based on the technique used and your healing.
When can I return to work or exercise?
Light work can often be resumed sooner than heavy physical work. Intensive exercise and pressure on the treated areas should only be built up again after your surgeon’s approval.
Will the scars be visible?
Liposuction and fat transfer leave small scars at the access points. These usually fade but never disappear completely.
Could a second treatment be needed?
Yes. If more volume is desired, some fat is reabsorbed or asymmetry remains, an additional treatment can be discussed once the result has stabilised sufficiently.
What does a BBL do for cellulite or loose skin?
A BBL is primarily intended to improve contour and volume. Cellulite or significant excess skin will not automatically disappear and may require a different treatment.
Will the result last after pregnancy or weight changes?
Pregnancy, ageing and weight fluctuations can change the contour of the buttocks and donor areas. Maintaining a stable weight before and after surgery is therefore important.
